Packing Tips
The majority of the large removals companies provide a packing service which can save you valuable time and effort.
However if you are managing the packing yourself the following tips below will help ease the whole process during transportation and un-packing.
What you will need
- Bubble wrap/ newspaper
- Cling film
- Boxes of all different sizes (look on-line for specialised suppliers)
- Marker Pen
- Labels
- Tape
- Scissors
Packing tips
Pack a box of essential items such as toilet rolls, medicines, tea, coffee, milk, sugar and biscuits, label and keep with you in your own car for easy access when you arrive at you own property.
Pack a box of important documentation such as passports, medical card, bank details etc and keep with you.
Think ahead about what will go in each room and pack items together.
Label boxes detailing what is in them and what room they are to be stored in.
Make sure all boxes can be closed and sealed well so that they can be loaded easily on to the removal vehicle.
Do not overload boxes.
Split heavy items up and mix them with lighter items so that boxes aren’t too heavy.
Wrap furniture where possible to avoid them being damaged and label them detailing what room they are to be placed in.
Keep all wiring and connection with electrical items such as computers, television, sound systems etc.
Pack plants in a suitable ventilated box. Prune them prior and cushion them with dampened newspaper which will provide moisture for them whilst on the move.
Ask your VET for advice about moving pets. Make sure they have plenty of food and water, where applicable, placed in a suitable container and, if you are moving quite a way away, stop regularly to check on them and to give them exercise.
